Frequently asked

The short answers.

Is Spelly free?

Download on the App Store — no ads. Optional Spelly Pro unlocks every category at every difficulty, removes the lives system (unlimited play), and gives double XP.

Does Spelly have ads?

No. Zero ads. No interstitials, no banners, no 'watch a video to continue' prompts. Everything stays on your device — no tracking, no data collection.

What ages is Spelly for?

Spelly has three difficulty tiers: Easy (ages 6-10, beginning spellers), Medium (ages 11-15, intermediate vocabulary), and Hard (ages 16+ through adult, SAT-grade words). Kids, teens, parents, and English learners all use the same app at their own level.

Does Spelly work offline?

Yes. No internet connection needed once installed. Great for car rides, planes, waiting rooms, and anywhere reception is spotty. The whole word bank ships with the app.

Is Spelly safe for kids?

Yes. Every word in every category has been reviewed for safety. No accounts required (no logins, no personal data). No ads, no third-party trackers. No in-app messaging or social features that could expose kids to strangers.

Is Spelly good for ESL or English learners?

Yes — it's designed with English learners in mind alongside kids and families. Picture Spell uses picture-to-word association (how the brain actually learns vocabulary), which is faster than rote memorization. It works for ESL students, IELTS/TOEFL prep, and adults learning English.

Can adults use Spelly?

Absolutely. The Medium and Hard difficulty tiers include SAT-grade, IELTS-grade, and TOEFL-grade vocabulary. Many adults use Spelly to brush up on spelling, prep for exams, or just enjoy a daily word game.

What's the difference between Picture Spell and Word Blitz?

Picture Spell is the calm, paced mode — you see a picture and pick the correct spelling from four options. No timer. Great for learning vocabulary at your own pace. Word Blitz is the arcade mode — correctly-spelled and misspelled words fall down the screen, and you tap only the correct ones before they disappear. Five lives, multipliers, and power-ups. Picture Spell teaches; Word Blitz tests.

How does the daily challenge work?

Each day Spelly generates a fresh goal — spell N words correctly, hit a streak, complete a category, etc. Hit it to keep your daily streak alive and bank bonus coins. Resets at midnight local time.

How many words does Spelly have?

Over 14,000 hand-curated words across 23 categories — animals, food, science, geography, sports, history, mythology, common words, and more. Each word has been reviewed for safety and tagged by difficulty.

What devices does Spelly support?

iPhone and iPad. Universal app — one download, runs natively on both. Requires iOS 17 or later. Light and dark mode supported. No Android version yet.

What's Spelly Pro?

An optional one-time in-app purchase that unlocks every category at every difficulty (removes any locked categories), removes the lives system so you can play unlimited rounds, and doubles XP earned per game. Pro is for users who want everything available immediately and no lives gating.
